I am a novice with cutting helical gears. I was cutting 21 tooth w/ 30 degree left hand helix. The hob is double start Left Hand hob. I could only obtain climb cutting feeding toward the tailstock by using 2 studs in the index and 2 studs in the differential. It was tracking after cuts of .005, .50, .100 the last cut of .100 broke 2 rows of gear teeth. What happend?

I had less than .050 surface foot and .025 feed.

The article I read said I needed to adjust index and differential for Dbl start hob. I did double the driver in the index, but did not do anything with the differential. Does this cause a problem?

Perplexed- Mike S
