We buy large hard cut Klingelnberg spiral bevel gears from Germany. The surface fails on the pinion and on the gear. The gears are very solid marine construction, not a ring. Our supplier does the heat treatment using a quench press. We think that quenching the gears in the press adds more residual tension stress on rendom areas. So the stress from the hard cutting adds and the stress from the press add up.
