You'll need to learn how to transpose the diff equation for your machine.

I'll create an example using the diff equation from one of our hobbers.


Diff equation -

Decimal Ratio = (7.95775 x Sin Helix Angle) / (Module x Hob No. Starts)

Transposing this equation to work backwards from a pre determined gear train becomes -

Sin-1 of Helix Angle = (Decimal Ratio x Module x Hob No. Starts) / 7.95775
