My company is manufacturing two different serrations per the British Standard 2059:1953, and I am attempting to calculate a pin size and dimension over pins for a 7/16, 16 tooth and a 3/8, 16 tooth. When I use the formulas listed in Part 2, Appendix E, I am unable to get a result for the value of X1(formula iv)for the 3/8 serration. I keep ending up with a negative value from which to derive the square root.
The formula seems to work fine for the 7/16 serration. I get .0565 as the value of X1 for the 7/16. Is there anyone out there familiar with this spec. who can help me?
