Tried this this vintage machine with sad results, the seals were attacked by the coolant. If you want to change out all the seals with appropriate materials, you can over come that problem.
In other gear cutting operations, I have had mixed success. If the characteristics of the lube are not correct, tool life and/or part quality will suffer.
