Measure the base pitch of the gear by taking span measurements over two consecutinve pairs of teeth. Pick the # of teeth so you are measuring as close to the pitch diameter as possible. The difference in these two measurements is the base pitch of the gear. Ash Gear has a very nice base pitch table and explination of how to use it in their catalog. It has helped me on several occasions with odd ball pitches and pressure angles.
