The #7 has a "back-off" block under the work apron. This allows the work spindle to move away at about 7 degrees to allow the cutter clearance on the up stroke. If you flip this block it will back away at zero degrees. Another thig is what Bill mentioned. The work saddle stops against the 4 points in the main casting. If it is loose the spindle will float and be pushed around during ctting forces. To take this out put it on the down stroke. Force the work spindle toward the cutter. You should have zero play. It is normal for the work spindle to "bump" against the points in the casting. If you have play you can take it out by lenthening the ajustment rod in the rear of the machine. This also affects the backlash in the lower worm so make sure you have that moved out and recheck it if you make other adjustments. The lower worm is adjusted with a stop block near it.
