The reason for this limit is the cutter must be positioned to cut on the opposite side of the part. In order to reach that side the stroking arm requires an extension which increases the lever length of the arm. So if you set the stroke length to maximum the actual stroke is much shorter. If you don't extend the arm the in/out position of the saddle will be out of time. "V" series and cnc shapers cut on the same side and simply reverse the backoff of the cutter.
