Thanks Dimebag for explaining differential's purpose. Instead of shifting the work piece rotation to accommodate helix angle, there has to be shifting of rotation to accommodate hob's axial shifting.
I've never seen documentation of setting the differential for that purpose.
I too wonder at how the poster has determined angle after cutting. Maybe Lol can describe how he did that?
Back in the day, we had the worm that ran in the gear. With a shaft through the worm and sitting in the gear, we determined if the wormgear angle matched the worm.
